Children are admitted to Oaklands Nursery in the September after their 3rd birthday. 3 and 4 year olds are entitled to 15 hours free nursery education per week. (some families will be eligible for free 30 hours place if both parents are working, subject to criteria). Click here to see the criteria for 30 hours places. Free childcare places
3 & 4 year olds

All 3 and 4 year olds in Staffordshire are entitled to a free place for 15 hours each week in term time. (some families will be eligible for free 30 hours place if both parents are working, subject to criteria). Click here to see the criteria for 30 hours places

Your child is eligible from the beginning of the term after their 3rd birthday:

Children born between / Free place starts
1st January – 31st March / Summer Term
1st April – 31st October / Autumn Term
1st September – 31st December / Spring Term


The nursery will submit a claim on your behalf for the free childcare. For more information:

Free 2 year old places
Children are eligible for a free 2 year old place if families claim any of the following:
• Income support
• Income related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
• Income based Job Seekers Allowance(JSA)
• Child Tax Credit and have an annual income not over £16,190 (CTC)
• Working Tax Credit and have an annual income not over £16,190 (WTC)
• The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
• Support through Part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act
• The Working Tax Credit 4-week run on (The payment you get when you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
• Universal Credit and have a net annual household earnings below £15,400 (this means your take-home pay from any paid employment, after Income Tax and NI contributions have been deducted).

2 year olds are also eligible if they:
• Have a current statement of SEN or an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHC)
• Attract Disability Living Allowance(DLA)
• They are looked after by the Local Authority
• Have left care through special guardianship or through an adoption or residence order.

Your child will be eligible for a free 2 year old place from the beginning of the term after their 2nd birthday.
